Ex Forrester Pupil Chloe MacLean

Chloe MacLean will be visiting the school on Thursday 18th June for a Karate demonstration.

 

FormerForresterHigh School pupil Chloe MacLean is a five-time British Karate Champion and World U21 Bronze medallist in the women’s -50kg weight category. Chloe combines her sport with study at the University of Edinburgh, where she has completed a Masters in Sociology and continues to study for a PhD, looking at gender relations in sport.

 

The 22-year-old lives in Broomhouse and was inspired to study sociology after attending classes at StevensonCollege – now EdinburghCollege – whilst in sixth year. Chloe started karate aged seven and has competed for Scotland since aged 16 in the sport she describes as requiring agility, flexibility and fearlessness.

 

Later this year, she hopes to win a medal at the European Universities Championships then compete at the Commonwealth Championships in Canada, hoping to better two gold medals at the last Championships.

 

Chloe is one of more than 150 students in colleges and universities across Scotland to receive scholarship funding and support in their pursuit of sporting and academic success from Winning Students.

Courtney has been training in Karate since June 2004. She achieved her Black Belt when she was 13 years old in 2010.  Currently she is training for her 2nd Dan Grade.

 

Courtney competes at Local, National and International Competitions. Her achievements in just the last few years:

 

2009 – Overall 6 Gold, 2 Silver and 3 Bronze

This includes her winning the 10-13yrs Open Championship along with 2 Silver at the Dublin Open in Ireland

 

2010 – Overall 7 Gold and 8 Bronze

Competitions include Sheffield and South Yorkshire

 

2011 – Overall 5 Gold, 5 Silver and 8 Bronze

This includes the Scottish International Open- Team Champion,

Champion of 14-15yrs Welsh Open and Silver in Teams,

Champion of 14-15yrs British International Open and Silver in Teams

 

2012 – Overall 5 Gold, 9 Silver and 6 Bronze

This includes the Northern Open Classic (Wigan)- Team Champion,

Silver in 14-15yrs at the South Yorkshire Open,

Silver in 16-17yrs and Silver in Senior Teams at the Welsh Open

Champion of 16-17yrs Individual and Champion 16-17yrs Teams at

Wado UK East Yorkshire Open

 

In September 2012 Courtney travelled with her Club to Berlin, Germany for the Banzai Cup. She was knocked out of the semi-finals and lost in repecharge.

 

In October 2012 Courtney travelled with her Club to Nottingham for a Seminar with Rafael Aghayev (many time World & European Champ)

 

2013 – To date 1 Gold, 4 Silver and 3 Bronze
